Applications of Inertial Sensors

An Inertial Navigation System consists of three orthogonal rate-gyroscopes and three orthogonal accelerometers for measuring angular velocity and high-performance linear acceleration respectively. In which, the gyroscope estimates the angular velocity of the sensor frame with reference to the inertial reference frame. It then calculates the system’s current orientation with the help of the original orientation of the system in the inertial reference frame. On the other hand, accelerometers calculate the linear acceleration of the moving vehicle in the inertial sensor but in directions that can only be measured in proximity to the moving system. They form the inertial guidance system and continuously measure an object’s orientation, position, and velocity relative to a starting point without requiring external references. Thereafter, the inertial sensor calculates its revised position and velocity by combining details obtained from the integrated motion sensors.

Bestech offers tactical grade and industrial grade high precision inertial measurement units from Inertial Labs. The IMU-P and Kernel are temperature calibrated with their operational temperature range to acquire maximum usefulness for their application. The calibrated temperature helps to ensure tactical grade performance regardless of the environment you use them in. The inertial sensors are utilised in mobile robots and on conveyances such as ships, aeroplanes, submarines, guided missiles and spacecraft.

A solid-state Inertial Reference System (IRS) works best for aerial applications in which an inertial guidance system provides flight control and navigation support to facilitate navigation, stabilisation and pointing for beyond line of sight communications. The other applications of data range derived by an inertial measurement unit are commercial and military vehicles as our inertial sensors can tackle GPS-denied environments. Inertial solutions in the small to large-scale industrial solutions are to practice quality control, autonomous delivery, and safety compliance for the team working on elevated work platforms. Lastly, our gyroscopes deliver exceptional performance in each environment for the marine industry.
