Automatic paper web control

The paper production process includes a number of steps through which the final product is obtained. At first the paper pulp is prepared that is transferred onto a conveyor belt of fine wire mesh and the water is drained off from it. Then, the generated paper web is transported to the wet press rollers which determine the paper web speed. During this process, chances of getting tears in the paper web are very high.

To avoid this situation, optoNCDT laser position measuring System by Micro-Epsilon are used to measure the position of the paper web between the two stations. The system generates an analog output signal which is then fed into a closed loop control circuit which influences the motor speed at the conveyor belt. This measuring technique helps in ensuring that a specified setpoint distance value is maintained. The optical displacement sensors used in this process are capable of providing reliable and precise results.

These sensors offer the highest precision in their class with their high measuring rate, even in continous industrial use and can also be installed in restricted spaces, due to their compact design with integrated controller. The sensor ranges are suitable for measurements on shiny or metllic as well as matt surfaces.
