FSC1/7 FSC1000 paint thickness gauge for CFRP

Bestech Australia announces the release of the new microwave sensor from Micro-Epsilon for measuring paint thickness. The FCS gauge is a measurement device designed for conducting rapid thickness measurement on paint and electrically insulating layers such as CFRP or CFRP with metallic lightning protection and metals. As the sensor operates on non-destructive principle, there is no influence on paints and substrates. The device consists of a sensor and a controller for operating and displaying output. It operates within the microwaves band reserved for industrial, scientific and medical (ISM) purposes, i.e. frequency range from 24 to 24.25 GHz.

The FCS paint thickness sensor is available with two different models, FCS1/7 and FCS1000, each designed for thickness measurement of 500µm and 1000µm, respectively. These sensors can measure thickness of any layer, including those with low thickness, reliably and the tests can be completed in a second.  Calibration can be independently performed when measuring new materials and the data can be stored and loaded for future reference and analysis. The measurement data can be exported to the computer via USB for analysis.

This paint thickness gauge is specifically targeted for advanced and high-end manufacturing that requires expensive and hard to acquire coating or substrate materials. The FSC gauge has been used in the aviation industry and have been certified by renowned aircraft manufacturers. It can also be used for measuring the paint thickness of wind turbine blades during manufacturing.
