The EC-480 is designed to demonstrate the operation of a variable displacement turbocharger. The system is constructed based on a 2005-2015 GM Duramax platform and features a next generation variable vane technology (VVT). Using this system also offers advantages in reducing the “turbo lag” phenomenon which is a common problem from operating a turbocharged engine. The “turbo lag” phenomenon is defined as the temporary lag time in increasing the engine power due to the lack in volume of air flow to create enough power. This cutaway system clearly shows the operation of all the internal components in the turbocharger.
