The HFN3 Plate Clutch Friction Apparatus is the educational tool used for the investigation of the coefficient of friction of brake lining material. It enables instructors to demonstrate the relation of torque with the axial load and disc diameter. This self-contained, wall-mounted equipment consists of a stationary plate with friction rings, an upper aluminum alloy plate whose shaft rotates in ball bearings, and three interchangeable friction rings. Calibrated weights are also supplied, which helps to vary the load on the plate. The trainer unit helps students to practically conclude that the minimum torque to maintain rotation is proportional to the axial load and diameter of the friction disc.
