HST22 Torsion of Rods and Tubes

The HST22 Torsion of Rods and Tubes training equipment is designed for educational institutes to investigate the torsion and torsional rigidity in rods, and tubes. The training equipment can be used with a Universal base frame or a Universal structural frame and an external interface to perform different experiments. It enables students to understand the engineering structures such as airplane wings, shafts or beams by studying how torsion affects each rod, tube or object and then determine their modulus of rigidity. The entire training equipment kit is available with tools and an instruction manual to perform the different laws of bending moment, strain, stress, young’s modulus, bending moment diagrams (BMD) and verification of equilibrium of vertical forces & moments.

Experimental capabilities:

  • Verification of the classical theory of torsion in circular section rods and tubes
  • Comparison of a tube and a similar tube with a 1mm slit along the length
  • Comparison of the extended theory of torsion for a hollow square section member with experimental values
  • Shear modulus
  • Modulus of Rigidity, G
  • Polar moment of inertia
