A vacuum gauge measures pressure in a vacuum. They are used in situations where the pressure in a given system is lower than the atmospheric pressure. Vacuum pressure gauges are important tools in a number of commercial and industrial applications, including measuring pressure in heat pumps, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
They are categorized into active and passive gauges. Passive gauges or vacuum tubes require a controller to provide vacuum, whereas, active gauges often termed as smart gauges combine the passive vacuum gauge and vacuum controller electronics in one device. Depending on the type of vacuum system, and the required operating vacuum level, different vacuum gauges are required, often in combination with one another, to accurately determine and/or control the vacuum level of the chamber at any given moment in time. Depending upon the method of operation, vacuum gauges are engineered over a specific vacuum pressure including mechanical, absolute pressure, thermocouple and hot and cold cathode vacuum gauges.
The vacuum pressure gauges are important devices to ensure optimal performance and safety of the system. They may be used for pick-and-place applications, keeping the workplace clean from pollutants, transport materials, etc.
